What do I do if a religious holiday falls on a due date?

Please take advantage of the grace period for the assignment (whether daily writing or a major project) if the due date for any work in this class coincides with a religious holiday that you celebrate. Please let me know before the holiday if the grace period will not be adequate.

What do I do if I have a personal emergency?

If you miss a deadline because of an illness, death in the family, or family emergency, see the Student Advocacy page from the Dean of Students Office for details on how to document the situation.

If you have an issue that affects your ability to complete the course, you may qualify for Academic Relief. For personal medical issues, contact the Schiffert Health Center, and for psychiatric or psychological issues, contact the Cook Counseling Center.

What is the late policy for final exams?

Final exams cannot be late. There is no make-up policy. Because I need to calculate and submit course grades, I cannot accept late exams. Be sure that you submit your final by the end of your exam period. You can find the final exam schedule in Hokie Spa as well as on the course syllabus.

Oral presentations cannot be late. There is no make-up policy. In the case of group oral presentations, the group will make the presentation without the missing person.

For Face-to-Face Classes on Campus

If you are taking a class that meets face-to-face, you will complete writing activities that you will submit online, usually via Tests & Quizzes in Scholar. Sometimes this work will take the form of a blog post that you write or an email message that you send. This work is due during your class period and counts as part of your grade.

If you cannot complete the work in class, you have until 5 PM the next day to submit it. For instance, if an in-class writing takes place on Monday, you have until 5 PM on Tuesday to complete the work and submit it online.

After 5 PM on the following day, I do not accept in-class writing submissions. There are no exceptions to this policy.

For Online Classes

If you are taking a class that meets online, you will complete writing activities that you will post online, usually in a forum post. Sometimes this work will take in Tests & Quizzes in Scholar or as an email message that you send. This work is due by 11:59 PM in your timezone on the day assigned and counts as part of your grade.

If you cannot complete the work in class, you have until 11:59 PM the next day to submit it. For instance, if a writing activity is scheduled for Monday, you have until 11:59 PM on Tuesday to complete the work and submit it online.

After 11:59 PM on the following day, I do not accept submissions. There are no exceptions to this policy.
