Yes, it is graded as if it was turned in by the suggested due date. There is no penalty for using the grace period.

What do I do if I miss an assignment?
If the grace period for the assignment is still open, go ahead and complete and then submit the assignment. As long as you submit the assignment before the grace period ends, there is no problem. If the grace period has passed, it is too late to submit the assignment.
